What is Care Farming?
Care Farming is the practice of using farming and nature based activities to promote health, well-being, and personal growth. Open Farms provides a supportive, inclusive environment where individuals of all abilities can connect with the land, animals, the community and….themselves.
Care farming is widely used in Europe as an evidence-based alternative to traditional care systems and is quickly growing in the United States. It fills a crucial gap for those who don’t thrive in structured clinical settings, don’t qualify for services, or who seek a more personally meaningful experience. Co-farmers may choose to collect eggs, build fences, tend gardens, care for animals, grow food, or steward the land. These aren’t simulated tasks—they’re essential to the farm’s function, and they create a powerful sense of purpose. All activities are self-led, and “choice” is paramount here.
