Our “herd” began with goats, and grew into a community.
Open Farms is rooted in the simple belief that nature, animals, and community can bring profound healing. What began as a goat-grazing company that promoted an eco-friendly land clearing service quickly grew into something much more meaningful. As our goats traveled through neighborhoods across Western New York, they sparked something special—people felt an undeniable connection to them and a deeper pull towards the natural world.
We listened to those voices, and Open Farms was born from this shared desire for a place where anyone, regardless of ability or background, can experience the peace, balance, and joy that come from being close to the land and animals.
‘Care farming’ is the practice of using farming and nature-based activities as a way to support people's mental, physical, and emotional well-being. By engaging in meaningful tasks like caring for animals, tending gardens, or working the land, individuals find a sense of purpose and connection. This is especially impactful for those facing challenges like disabilities, mental health issues, or social isolation.
This vision of Open Farms has come to life through the dedication and passion of so many. Friends, family, neighbors, environmentalists, mental health advocates, disability-rights activists, and countless others have helped build a place where everyone is included and encouraged to contribute. Open Farms isn’t just a farm; it’s a growing community that believes in healing through connection with nature, with animals, and with each other.
